Taking Part
The In2Air study examines how Newcastle City Council’s retrofitting affects indoor air quality in North East England homes. We monitor air quality for 3-4 weeks both before the housing upgrades in 2025 and one year after, using a small monitor. Participants also share information about their home, energy usage, and health through interviews to help us understand the retrofit’s impact. All participants receive up to £80 in shopping vouchers as compensation.
We invite you to join our study exploring how home improvements affect air quality, energy use, and wellbeing.
As a participant you will:
Let us place air quality monitors in your living room and outside for 3+ weeks (until retrofit begins)
Share your energy bills from the past year
Allow meter readings at start and end of monitoring
Complete a survey about your health, home, and lifestyle
The monitors will measure air particles, ventilation, temperature, and humidity. The survey will cover household size, activities, ventilation habits, damp issues, and energy usage.
